The sitcom we have all come to love and the family that has endeared our hearts to this program is directed by none other than Barbados film directer Rommel Hall. I caught up with him yesteday after his arrival from Barbados and over a sparkling glass of lemonade, we discussed his current production.
Rommel Hall is currently in the UK preparing for the double premier of the feature length movie ‘Keeping up With the Jones’
Q:Who are you and where in the world are you primarily based and where are you located right now?
:A: My name is Rommel Hall, I am based in Barbados. I am currently inthe UK promoting two screenings for my film “Keeping up with the Joneses: The Movie”
Q:What do you do, how would you describe your presence in the industry, what’s your mission?
A: I am a video producer, I am also a writer and director. I would say within the Barbadian film industry I am pretty well known. Even if a person does not know me, they would be familiar with my work within the Barbadian film industry. My mission is ultimately to take Barbadian talent and place it on the world stage where it would have global exposure.
Q: How long have you been doing this?
A::I have been involved in film production since 2008. However I have gotten into it more when I created my first television show: the Barbadian sitcom “Keeping up with the Joneses”
Q:INotable moments in your career?
A: have two notable moments in my career: 1) When Keeping up with the Joneses debuted in Barbados in November 2011 and 2) When Keeping up with the Joneses was picked up by “The African Channel” and became the first Barbadian series broadcast in the UK
QWhat’s the best and worst part of what you do?
A: The best part about what I do is seeing my ideas come to life. The worst part is the frustration in trying to get adequate funding to properly finance my projects.
Q:IA little about you?
A: I’m currently 34 years old, married to the lovely Keren Hall. I was a school teacher for 10 years before deciding to take up a career in film full time. I like fun and humour but I can be very serious if needed be.
Q:Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: In 10 years I would like to think that I have about 5 worldwide blockbusters and would be a person of influence in the creative industry.
Q: What do you do for relaxing/fun/chilling out?
A: To relax I watch television or play video games. Sometimes my wife and I go sightseeing, for a quiet drive to the surburbs and or to relax and enjoy life with the family.
Q:My What advice do you have for others inspired by you?
A: My advice is to never, ever, ever give up. Many times, things don’t look like they will work out and at other times you can be exhuausted by obstacles, but if you remain focussed, dedicated and work hard plus show a certain level of tenacity and grit and stubbornly pursue your dreams, you will be successful.
Q:Message for your fans, haters,critics
A: My message to my fans/haters/critics is that I’m not stopping and I will continue to push the envelope so that my work becomes bigger and better every year, myy aim is to inspire and create and to focus on what I enjoy doing and deliver the best I can.
